New Delhi: 68th Republic Day celebration in New Delhi turns out to be a red-letter day for the soldiers of Rashtriya  Rifle posted in Kashmir Valley. President of India Shri Pranab Mukharji on Thursday awarded with Army medal to the three soldiers who had encountered terrorist Burhan Wani last year.

Following the encounter, peace in Kashmir valley was affected. It took four months for the security agencies to douse the blaze of gory violence that erupted in different cities of the Kashmir and left with hundreds of soldiers and youth injured. Many had to lose their life in the stone pelting incidents.

The Army got the secret input that terrorist Burhan Vani and his close aide Sartaj Aziz were hiding at Bamdura village, around 18 KM away from Anantnag District in Southwest Kashmir. A team of Rashtriya Rifle under the supervision of Major Sandeep Kumar laid the trap in the Village. The heavy presence of team spreads like a fire in the village that made the operation more difficult.

Soldiers wanted to end up the operation without making their visibility. However, the villagers emerged as a biggest sticking point in the operation. Locals came ahead and started chanting slogans against Army. They didn’t mind pelting stones on the team. This made team to tweaks the stratergy. The village was first  besieged from all direction to avoid slipping of Burhan Vani, later encounter was done after taking time.

Major Sandeep Kumar along with Captain Manik Sharma and Lance Nayak Arvind Chowhan were awarded for killing Burhan Vani. The bravery of the soldiers and their outstanding patience is appreciated by President Pranab Mukharji. Back in the Kashmir valley, Rashtriya Rifle jawans didn’t miss the chance and celebrated the development by making special food for the regiment.

Pakistan had taken the issue in the United Nation. Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawab Sharif had termed Burhan Vani a martyr and alleged that atrocities and human right Violation in Kashmir are at the highest level. However, United nation did not pay heed to the Pakistan’s contention and suggested that Pakistan should talk with India and resolve all the pending issues amicably.

Following the dirty politics, India reviewed the Indus River water treaty that signed in 60’s between the two countries. Miffed with the step, Pakistan had again approached UN like a small baby to complaint India.
